The Labial Viseme Reconsidered: Evidence from Production and Perception
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study examined the degree to which visual /p,b,m/ are different in production and perception. A simple kinematic measure of orofacial motion derived from optical flow analysis of video demonstrates systematic differences between the three bilabials. Perceptual evaluation of /p,b,m/ presented audiovisually in degraded acoustics shows that identification of /b/ is especially difficult.

متن کاملUse of Partial Stimulus Information in Spoken Word Recognition Without Auditory Stimulation
The identification of isolated words in speechreading environments is extremely prone to error. Much of the reason for these errors is due to the extremely impoverished nature of spoken stimuli when the only perceptual information available is visual; some estimates place the number of visually discriminable segments at just over 25% of the number discriminable in auditory-only environments. Ho...
متن کاملPlace assimilation across words in running speech: corpus analysis and perception.
Place assimilation can lead to neutralization of segmental contrasts. It is controversial, however, to what extent such neutralizations actually happen in natural speech. The productio...
